Amalaki
Word origin: Sanskrit. It is commonly known as Amala or Indian Gooseberry. Latin name for Amalaki is Emblica officinalis Gaertn. Amalaki is a natural antioxidant, has antibacterial properties, and is an excellent source of Vitamin C. It is known to be helpful to those suffering from Arteriosclerosis, Diabetes, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Eye Disorders, Heart Disease, Hemorrhage, Digestive disorders, Leucorrhoea, Respiratory Disorders, Rheumatism, and Ulcers.
Arjuna
Word Origin: Sanskrit. Its Latin names are: Pentaptera glabra Roxb., Terminalia ovalifolia C.B.Clarke. It is often prescribed for heart ailments, and is known to improve cardiac function and reduce LDL cholesterol levels.
Ashvagandha
Word origin: Sanskrit. It is commonly known as Winter Cherry, and its Latin Name is Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal. It is often prescribed for Anemia, Arthritis, Memory/Cognitive impairments, to Promote growth, to improve Sports fitness/readiness, and for Stress Management.
Bitter Melon (also known as Bitter Gourd)
Word origin: Sanskrit. Its Indian names are: Karela, Karavella, or Kathilla. Its Latin Name is: Momordica charantia. Bitter Melon is quite helpful for regulating blood sugar levels -especially to those diagnosed with diabetes mellitus.
Brahmi
Word origin: Sanskrit. Latin Name is Bacopa monnieri. Its English name is: Thyme-Leaved Gratiola. Brahmi is considered to be an excellent brain and nerve tonic. It is known to improve mental acuity, as well as to bolster nerve and brain cell fuction. It is routinely prescribed to those receiving treatment for Attention deficit, Behavioral disorders, Cognitive disorders (especially in seniors), and Learning disabilities.
Garlic
Word Origin: possibly English. Its Latin Name is: Allium sativum (Linn.) Its Indian Name is: Lasuna. It is considered to be helpful in many ailments, and is found to be effective as a nerve stimulant, as well as for lowering serum cholesterol levels.
Guggul
Word origin: Sanskrit. Its Latin name is: Commiphora wightii (Arn.) Bhandari. Its English Name is: Indian Bedellium. Guggul is often prescribed for controlling obesity and for containing Cholesterol/Triglyceride levels. It also helps improve the HDL to LDL ratio.
Neem
Word origin: Sanskrit. Its Latin name is: Azadirachta indica. It is commonly known as Neem. Neem or Azadirachta Indica. Neem possesses excellent anti-diabetic, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. It is often used to treat skin disorders. Its extract is also used for detoxification, and to help improve circulatory, digestive, and respiratory as well as urinary systems. It is also used topically in case of several skin diseases.
Shallaki
Word origin: Sanskrit. Its Latin name is: Boswellia serrata (Roxb.) Its English name is: Boswellia. Shallaki is a fragrant herb with excellent anti-inflammatory properties. It is often prescribed for the treatment of Joint disorders, and is also known to help lower Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels.
Shudh Shilajit
Word origin: Sanskrit. Its Latin name is: Asphaltum. Its English names are: Mineral Pitch and Shilajit. Shilajit is known to be helpful to those being treated for age related complication such as Arthritis, Blood sugar level irregularities, Cognitive function impairment, Hypertension, Immune system impairment, Libido, Obesity, and Urinary tract complications.
Tagara
Word origin: Sanskrit. Its Latin name is: *aleriana wallichi DC, and its English name is: Indian Valerian. Tagara is quite an aromatic herb. Even though it is widely used in perfumes and incense, it is also used to treat sleeping disorders such as insomnia.
Triphala
Word origin: Sanskrit. It means blend of three fruit ingredients - namely Amalaki, Haritaki, and Vibhitaki. Latin names are: Emblica officinalis Gaertn, Terminalia chebula Retz, and Terminalia bellirica Roxb; and their English names are: Terminalia bellirica Roxb, Bellirica Myrobalan, and Indian Gooseberry. Triphala has excellent hypoglycemic properties, and it is known to improve cognitive function, liver function, as well as digestive function. Being a mild laxative, it is allow prescribed for cleansing of the colon.
Tulasi
Word origin: Sanskrit. Latin name: Ocimum sanctum Linn. Is English name is: Holy Basil. Tulsi is known to have antibacterial and insecticidal properties. It is found to be effective in lowering blood sugar levels. The juice of Tulsi leaves has many uses: from being a very good expectorant to being prescribed as a topical skin care agent for the treatment of cutaneous disorders such as ringworm, etc.
